Set in Hollywood, chock full of drama and replete with a cast of pretty young things—what’s not to love about Nick at Nite’s new show “Hollywood Heights”? The series, formerly titled “Reach for the Stars,” centers around Loren Tate (played by “One Life to Live”‘s Brittany Underwood), a teen whose dreams of becoming a pop star begin to come to fruition when she wins a songwriting competition for rock star Eddie Duran (“Make It or Break It” hottie Cody Longo).
In a story line taken straight from our wildest dreams, Eddie just happens to be her celebrity crush. And even though Loren is shy, the support from her single mom Nora—who’s about to hit the dating scene again for the first time in years—encourages her to follow her musical aspirations.
Meanwhile, the newly strengthened relationship Eddie has with his father starts to waver as Eddie begins a romance with aspiring actress Chloe Carter (“17 Again”‘s Melissa Ordway). Chloe just happens to be as manipulative as she is beautiful. As Loren’s star rises in the music scene and Eddie fades into the background, the unlikely pair learns that the journey to love and fame isn’t as easy as it looks.
Bonus: The one and only James Franco is set to join the cast because aside from landing on the moon, a Nickelodeon show is the only thing he hasn’t done yet. He’ll have a multi-episode arc as Osborne “Oz” Silver, an eccentric movie tycoon.
“Hollywood Heights” is slated to premiere on Nick at Nite this June, airing five nights a week.

Loren finds the support system she needs in her single mom, Nora (Williamson), as Nora returns to the dating scene for the first time in years. Meanwhile Eddie’s unbreakable bond with his father, Max (Ponce) – strengthened by family tragedy – is challenged by Eddie’s budding romance with a beautiful, but manipulative aspiring actress, Chloe Carter (Ordway). As Loren begins a meteoric rise on the music scene and Eddie’s star begins to fade, together they learn that the road to love and stardom often carries a heavy price tag.

The male equivalent of Single White Female, The Silent Thief follows a disturbed British drifter’s efforts to adopt another man’s personality. The audience immediately feels Toby Hemingway’s unnerving presence. It’s a shame that the family rents their son’s (Cody Longo) room to this shy stranger.
The daughter (Scout Taylor-Compton) finds herself drawn to this young man of mystery, which causes tension when Longo returns from college. Longo senses something is wrong with Hemingway, who likely has a borderline personality disorder and desires Longo’s place in the family.
Without stooping to cheap sensationalism, director Jennifer Clary lets the events unfold in chilling but predictable fashion. Her intelligent approach to Hemingway’s slow descent into madness sets The Silent Thief apart from the crop of lurid psychosexual thrillers that dominated theaters in the early 1990s. Unfortunately, like The Roommate, 2011’s unofficial remake of Single White Female, The Silent Thief doesn’t quite possess enough unique personality traits to establish its own identity.
The Silent Thief will screen 6:45 p.m. Sunday and Wednesday at the Muvico Parisian, 545 Hibiscus St., West Palm Beach. Tickets are $10, $7 for students and seniors.

The Silent Thief is the debut feature film by Jennifer Clary.
Brennan Marley (Toby Hemmingway) is an adolescent grifter who earns the trust and love of a suburban family after moving into their home while their eldest son, Mike (Cody Longo), is away at college. But, when Mike finally returns home, he’s the only one to suspect that the stranger living in his house is up to no good.
The film also stars Frances Fisher (Titanic) and Kurt Fuller (Midnight in Paris) as Mike’s parents and Scout Taylor-Compton (the Halloween remake and Halloween II) as his sister, all of whom are seduced by Brennan’s devious charms.
Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film previously reviewed Clary’s short film Dirty Girl way back in 2007, calling it an “extremely powerful film.”
